Why research?

Not enough is known about malignant brain tumours, who is affected or why they occur.

More men under 45 and women under 35 die from a brain tumour than any other cancer.

The incidence of brain tumours has increased by 30-40% in the past 30 years; that’s 2% per year 20% of all cancers now spread to the brain.

Brain tumour research receives just over half a percent (0.7%) of cancer research spending in the UK.

Brain Tumour Research Campaign combines the skills of clinicians, academics and pathologists on both a local and global platform. Their laboratory is based at Charing Cross Hospital which is regarded as being an international centre of excellence for neuro-oncology.

Goals & Objectives

BTRC objective is to fund a multi-tiered research project to improve our understanding of brain tumour biology and improve current treatment strategies.

To be able to do this, they are providing funding for the BTRC research team, laboratory and equipment and are promoting neurological and medical research.

BTRC are lobbying with other brain tumour research charities to create awareness in public and private sectors. Research results are shared with other brain tumour research groups both in the UK and internationally.

THE LAST DAY!!!!!

Mission accomplished, 905 miles, 12 punctures, 8 fall offs or collisions, 60 cyclists and a staggering amount of money raised.

The final day on Sunday began at 9am with the last 19 miles through stunning Cornish countryside and after Penzance we rode in glorious sunshine and blue skies. We all stopped 4 miles from Lands End for our final refreshment break and all bikes had Cornish flags tied to them.

Dan, Annie, Rosalind, Ben and Jordan finished in a line with 20 cyclists not far behind and many supporters had also driven down for the final leg. The reception party was fantastic and the champagne was flowing. Photos were taken and everyone piled into cars and travelled back to Browns in Tavistock for the party. The party had a few still standing at 2.30am.

Great event and memories for years to come. Well done to everyone who cycled, supported and sponsored this fantastic event.

A special thank you to Sarah Mills for very kindly updating the blog daily for us and keeping everyone aware of the team progress.

Until the next adventure!!!!
