Why research?

Not enough is known about malignant brain tumours, who is affected or why they occur.

More men under 45 and women under 35 die from a brain tumour than any other cancer.

The incidence of brain tumours has increased by 30-40% in the past 30 years; that’s 2% per year 20% of all cancers now spread to the brain.

Brain tumour research receives just over half a percent (0.7%) of cancer research spending in the UK.

Brain Tumour Research Campaign combines the skills of clinicians, academics and pathologists on both a local and global platform. Their laboratory is based at Charing Cross Hospital which is regarded as being an international centre of excellence for neuro-oncology.

Goals & Objectives

BTRC objective is to fund a multi-tiered research project to improve our understanding of brain tumour biology and improve current treatment strategies.

To be able to do this, they are providing funding for the BTRC research team, laboratory and equipment and are promoting neurological and medical research.

BTRC are lobbying with other brain tumour research charities to create awareness in public and private sectors. Research results are shared with other brain tumour research groups both in the UK and internationally.

Day 3 - High's & Low's

Friday's cycling had quite literally some high's and low's. The scenery was beautiful - Loch Ness, the Nevis range of mountains, Fort Augusta the list could go on. We covered 65 miles today in beautiful sunshine and a slight head wind. Our support team stopped every 15 miles to provide us with refreshments, which was perfect. We will be the only team to cycle 900 miles and put weight on! Last refreshment stop just outside Fort William at the Commando memorial - a bottle of beer and apple crumble, the perfect cure for a numb bum!
